OUR MISSION:

Abraham Lincoln Independent Study Virtual Academy is a school where students can further develop academically and socially in an alternative educational program. Our mission is to create competent and confident lifelong learners who are engaged, responsible, creative, and productive in an ever-changing world.

A Brief Explanation of Our Program

We offer an Independent Study program that differs from a traditional classroom setting. Daily learning is almost entirely virtual, with students learning and interacting with teachers remotely.

Students work and learn at home under the supervision of a parent or guardian. The student’s teacher is available via video conference, phone, or email to answer questions and provide academic assistance as needed.

Important Note: With advance notice, a student may occasionally be required to visit the school site for targeted academic intervention, counselor guidance, or testing.

Is Independent Study Right for Your Student?

Independent Study provides an alternative educational setting for students whose individual needs may make participation or success at a traditional school setting challenging. Students who participate in Independent Study should also have a parent or guardian who is able and willing to provide daily support and supervision for learning at home.

Students may be considered for Independent Study when there is an identified and documented educational need that supports a referral to an Independent Study program.

How Does a Student Enroll in Independent Study?

Enrollment in Abraham Lincoln Independent Study Virtual Academy begins with the student’s assigned school of origin.

A parent or guardian may discuss whether Independent Study may be an appropriate option for their student with the student’s school of origin. However, parents and guardians do not directly refer students to Abraham Lincoln Independent Study Virtual Academy.

The student’s school of origin must submit a referral on the student’s behalf based on an identified and documented need for an alternative educational setting. The referral allows the appropriate school personnel to consider the student’s individual circumstances and determine whether a referral to Independent Study is appropriate.

If a referral is made, Abraham Lincoln Independent Study Virtual Academy will work with the student, family, and referring school to support a smooth transition and determine whether our program is an appropriate educational placement for the student.

Interested in Learning More?

We encourage families to learn more about our program and discuss their student’s educational needs with their student’s current school.
